The story being written among the people of Thessalonica had only one explanation: GOD! The months following Paul’s premature departure from Thessalonica as a result of the heavy persecution must have been agonizing. With young Christ-followers being pressured and oppressed by their neighbors to forsake Christ, some of the flock would wander. Isn’t that how it works in our minds too?

Immature Faith + Persecution = Certain Remission of Faith

Yet, Timothy’s encouraging report brought a different story. A story of God truly at work within His people, bringing joy in the midst of persecution (1:6) and using the people of Thessalonica to spread His fame (1:9-10). Not everything was rosy in Thessalonica, as some grew insecure in their faith, seeing loved ones die (4:13) and others fall into laziness (5:14). Nonetheless, Paul was confident that the work initiated by the Father would be carried to completion by Him (5:23-24). Paul only asked the Thessalonian church to press on for Even More (4:1, 4:10).

We have the same desire this summer. God has initiated a great work among His people in TSC. But is that all? Is He done? For students, summer is a season of relaxation and rejuvenation, and it should be. However, summers often become seasons of apathy and laziness. We don’t want that. Do you?

Every time we taste God, we want Even More of Him. We don’t want our story to be one of plateaus, but of more and more. Not only is it our desire for you to have Even More, but it is God’s desire as well and He is calling us to a place beyond ourselves. Will you respond to His call?

Like the Thessalonians, we have a story, a writing in process. What will be the next chapter of your life? If you write it, it will likely be Enough. If God writes it, it will be Even More.

Join others who want Even More of God, Thursdays this summer at 7:00p in the Box at Cornerstone Church.
